Kirjoitin pienen tekstin ”Haluan vakuuttua vedestä, valosta, näistä olennoista” kuvataiteilija Noora Sandgrenin Yrjönkadun uimahallin edustalle valmistuneen julkisen teoksen Veteiset yhteydessä julkaistuun kirjaan.
I wrote the tiny piece ”I want to be assured of water, of light, of these creatures” for the book publication of visual artist Noora Sandgren’s artwork Water Bodies, permanently located at the Yrjönkatu public swimming pool in Helsinki.
”I’m standing in the snowfall and thinking about existence without categories, I’m trying, even though I’m a human. Noora has said that all of the planktons in her pictures are from water that she has swum in herself, that is, waters that have interacted with her skin, her body, and its openings. I imagine that the same creatures are inside me, as well, they have always been with me and moved through me without my thinking about them. In Water Bodies I can see them, read their names in the descriptions, and be assured of their reality. (In that way, Water Bodies is like a passport or ID.) But that’s not all, and it isn’t enough. With Water Bodies I wish to be assured of these beings, even though I am human and do not know them: I wish it because I live in the same water, and because the same light has touched us.”
